Doordash Partnered Restaurants Need to Train Their Employees

It can be really annoying when you receive a ping, arrive at a restaurant and tell them that you are there to pick up a Doordash order, and they look at you like you are a crazy mad-man. They have no idea what you want, and they have no idea what Doordash is. You try to explain everything to them, but their English is so bad that they cannot comprehend anything that you are saying. All they want is for you to leave their restaurant. Well, this happened to me about a month ago, and I ended up walking out of the restaurant empty handed with no food delivered to the customer.

My Time Wasted for being the First ever Dasher at this Merchant

Upon contacting Doordash about the problem, I was informed that this was a new partnered restaurant and that Doordash had already placed the customer's order. I told the rep that they have never received the customer's order. He then said that he will place the order again. I said okay, and we ended the chat. I told the ladies that work at the restaurant that Doordash will be placing a customer's order with them again since they did not receive it the first time. I then asked them how they receive Doordash orders. Through a tablet? They all nodded no-no-no. I then asked them if anybody called in an order. Again, I get the no-no-no from them.

It seemed like they just wanted to sweep me right out of the front door. I then contacted the Doordash rep again and asked him how he placed the order since these people don't have the tablet to receive orders. He then tells me that he emailed the order to them. I immediately asked the ladies if they have a computer to receive an emailed order. I get the no-no-no confused look and answer again.

At this point I start to feel like my time is being wasted here for nothing. The rep then asks to talk to the workers there. I have him on the phone so I put him on speaker. He began explaining to them what Doordash is and how they are now partnered with them, but the workers acted like it was just another crazy man on the phone. The rep then tells me to place the order myself, and I start to while he is on the phone with me, but in the middle of placing the order, he tells me to forget it because my red card will not work since this restaurant is a partnered restaurant.

Eventually, this order had to be canceled. There seemed to be one good thing about this though as I was told that I would get the full amount of pay for the order which was $7.50. I spent about 40 minutes at this restaurant so I was glad to hear it. I was the first dasher to ever set foot in this restaurant, and I paid the price for it. I say that literally because at the end of my shift I seen that I did not get paid for the order. I did not even receive the $2 for showing up. I was promised $7.50 for it and did not receive a dime. I was going to contact Doordash the next day, but I never did as I got busy. Day after day went by, then week after week, and now it has been about a month. I don't even remember the date or the customer's name now. I should have screenshot everything. Live and let learn.

Doordash Partnered Merchant Needs to Train their Employees

I am not going to name the restaurant where this incident happened because since my initial encounter there they have really improved. I'll never forget that first encounter with these people though. When I said I was from Doordash, they all shook their head at me like I was nuts. They just wanted me to leave. In reality, it was not the fault of any of the workers as they really had no idea what I was talking about.

The reason that this merchant's employees did not know about Doordash was because their upper-management did not inform them about anything. They did not tell their employees that they are now partnered with a food delivery service called Doordash and that drivers will be coming in to pick up and deliver food. To me this shows a bit of irresponsibility on managements part.

Upon partnering with Doordash, the management team should have immediately trained their employees on how to deal with Doordash orders. They should have been on this right away and trained their employees on how to receive Doordash order, how to process the order, when to expect the driver and everything else that they need to know. They should not have waited until orders were coming in already and then try to explain everything to their employees.

This restaurant dealt with these problems for days. The reason I know is that I talked to some other dashers who went to this restaurant during the next couple of days after my initial visit. All of them walked out with the $2 show up pay. At least they received something out of it! When I would receive future pings for this merchant, I would always decline it. Then after about a week I decided to accept one of their calls. When I arrived, the workers were on the ball and had the customer's order ready for me and greeted me with a smile. They apologized for all of the confusion last time and treated me a bit more human. They were no longer trying to sweep me out of their restaurant.

Even though I have focused this post about this one restaurant and the incident that happened, I must say that out of the regular restaurants that I pick up from, there are some that are well trained on handling Doordash orders and others that are not. Some merchants will always have the food ready for the dasher, and if they don't, they are on the ball to get it ready as soon as possible. My local BJs restaurant is a prime example of this. If the food is not ready when you get there, they will make sure that they prepare it as soon as possible for you. When they have the order ready, they will lay it all out on the table for you and name the items off one by one to make sure everything is there.

Then you have the restaurants that seem like they could care less about the dasher or the customer that ordered the food. A few restaurants that come to mind are Buffalo Wild Wings and Benihana. These restaurants never have the food ready when you get there. To make matters worse, it seems like they take their sweet time to prepare the food while you wait. They have no regard for the dasher or the customer. Both of these restaurants seem confused like they do not know what they are doing.

The whole point here is that any merchant that makes a decision to offer Doordash services should make sure that their employees are trained to make the take-out process as smooth as possible. It is good not only for the dasher and the customer, but it is also good for the merchant. The restaurant's professionalism and prompt service is noticed by everybody and will have a positive lasting effect on all parties involved.
