About Doordash acceptance rate
As we all know, when Doordash sends a dasher an order, the order can be accepted or declined. Statistics are kept on what percentage of orders a driver accepts and denies, and this will be their acceptance rate. Doordash drivers are able to keep track of their acceptance rate by looking at their ratings which are based on the last 100 opportunities sent. Accepting more order will of course raise a dashers acceptance rate, and declining offers will lower the acceptance rate.
Why I don't care about my Doordash acceptance rate
There was a time when I would accept orders that I shouldn't have just to keep my acceptance rate as high as possible. I wanted to see all of my stats in the green. When a stat is green it means that you have a very high rating for that particular rating. I thought to myself that Doordash probably gave more offers and higher paying offers to those that maintain high ratings across the board. Unfortunately, that is not the case, and I learned that maintaining all high ratings did neither of these things.
We are all dashing to make as much money as possible in as little time as possible. When Doordash sends us an offer that just does not benefit us, there is absolutely no reason for us to accept it. I'm sure all drivers have received those offers that pay $6 or less for a 15 mile drive. Why in the world would anybody accept a one sided offer like this? You lose a lot of time on an order like this and earn hardly anything for your time. Sure, when you decline orders like this your acceptance rate will go down, but it really does not matter.
I have spoken with Doordash reps on multiple occasions, and you cannot be deactivated for your acceptance rate. It is basically a stat to make you feel good about yourself if you see it green. If it's yellow or red, it doesn't look to good when you look at it, but again, who cares, it does not matter, and you are not going to get rewarded in any way by having a high acceptance rate.
Should you keep your Doordash acceptance rate high?
This is entirely up to you. When I am dashing, I am out to make money. I do not care about my Doordash acceptance rate. I will not accept ridiculous dashes just to keep my acceptance rate high. Yesterday, when I started my shift, Doordash sent me eight dashes in a row that were in my neighboring region that were all about 15 miles away. It's like they were trying to guide me to that area. Of course, I declined them all. The ridiculous offers would not stop so I put my dash on pause for 15 minutes. After getting back on, the offers for my region finally started coming in. My acceptance rate surely went down, but I am not worried about it.
As I write this post right now my acceptance rate is 55 percent. In the past, I would always make sure that it was at or about 90 percent. Now, it is normally between 40 percent and 70 percent. With my percentage so low, the offers that I receive are no different than when I maintained a higher acceptance rate. Do not ever think that you will receive more and better paying offers when you have a higher acceptance rate. It is just not the case. If you don't want to take my word for it and want to test it yourself, by all means go on ahead and try it for yourself. I guarantee you that you will see that what I am saying is true.
Your Doordash acceptance rate is basically a fun stat just to let you know how many dashes you are accepting and declining. It is not important at all. This might sound kind of strange, and I am not criticizing anybody, but I honestly believe that if you have an acceptance rate that is in the green, you are most likely accepting way to many offers. Yes, you are most likely accepting offers that you probably should not. This is all a driver's prerogative though, and if you want to accept every offer that comes your way, by all means go right on ahead and do so. This is the one thing about being a dasher, or a driver for similar companies that is great. We all have the freedom to accept and deny any offers that we receive.
Sometimes it is 75 percent, but I have noticed a lot of 80 percent requirements lately. If the bonus is a good one, like $5 or so, I will go out of the region and make those deliveries to qualify. If there is a $1 bonus going on, and I get a ridiculous call that is very far, I will just pass it up and forget about the bonus. It is sort of a deal that Doordash makes with you. They agree to pay you an extra bonus per delivery you complete, but you have to accept a certain percentage of orders. They do not want to pay you a bonus if you are only going to accept the short and convenient ones. Sometimes all calls do work out convenient, but sometimes it doesn't. It will be your choice if you want to take the out of region calls or not to qualify for bonus pay.
ReplyDeleteI GOT A FOOD DELIVERY ON 12/3 AND MY DRIVER WAS EXTREMELY COURTEOUS AND THOUGHTFUL. HE WAS DETAINED AT THE RESTAURANT BECAUSE THE RESTAURANT COULDN'T SPEED UP MY ORDER. MY DOORDASH DRIVER TEXTED ME TO SAY THERE WOULD BE A DELAY. THEN WHEN HE DELIVERED THE FOOD HE TEXTED ME IT WAS HERE. MANY THANKS FOR GREAT SERVICE!

DeleteDoordash has recently lowered the rates ,Now the Dasher makes almost nothing.Earlier it was+ $6 most of the time Now I even get orders that pays me less than $3 ,And the peek pay is an other scam,Today I did an order for $4 when $2 peek pay was active ,They just reduce the base pay.Doordash is like doing a charity now.
ReplyDeleteSince the new pay model came in to play, we are now offered delivery opportunities as low as $2. With the new low paying calls, it makes sense that almost every dasher out there will see a significant drop in their acceptance rate. As I have always preached here though. Your acceptance rate does not matter!!! Do not worry about your acceptance rate.
DeleteYes I agree. Acceptance rate doesn’t matter. My acceptance rate use to be 98 to 100. Now I’m at 70.
ReplyDeleteThere’s pros and cons to the new pay model. When a customer doesn’t tip the orders are like $2.00. It’s not worth it to me if it’s far. I just don’t decline, I’ll just let timer run out. I’ll only accept orders that are at least $5 and above, depending what area and far the drive. I try to keep it as 50 cents a mile I make going to restaurant, delivering and driving back. Anything lower, not doing it. I’ll only accept 2.00 orders if delivery is on my route to a good order I accepted.
I to was worried about my acceptance rate until I saw this blog. Now I’m not!
I've gotten lucky with 2-4 dollar orders where the customer would give me a 2-5 dollar cash tip because they know the deal. But it's hit or miss with those and I've actually been screwed by a couple.

DeleteFIFTY CENTS A MILE? WTF? It costs over 50 cents a mile just to operate a car. You know that right? I average $1.30 a mile. I do DD as needed and make that. My acceptance rate is ALWAYS below 50%. If it's not paying a dollar a mile or more...I leave it for YOU. Grubhub doesn't have that problem. I ear about 25% more with them but their hours are more narrow.
Delete2.00 orders are not worth the hassle. I thought I would accept a few to try it out to see if people tip in cash, no they didn't. I had a 2.00 order take me close to an hour because the customer, a student at a school, called me to change the address. Then door dash would not accept that I was at the correct location and would not release me from the order. When you call door dash they must have an automatic question they must ask and it doesn't have anything to do with what you just told them the problem was. Other than a problem every other day dashing that needs assistance, I enjoy dashing.

ReplyDeleteI have been achieving top Dasher status for a few months now. I noticed at the beginning of this month that it said "acceptance rate (starting in December)". Any ideas what this means or what the minimum will be?
ReplyDeleteHello. Yes, it means that starting in December you must maintain a 70 percent acceptance rate if you want to continue to qualify for top rated dasher benefits. Brilliant way for Doordash to get the cherry-pickers to accept at least some of the lower paying calls.
DeleteThis week I started dashing with a 94 percent acceptance rate (I had notice that if I dropped below 80 percent the quality of the orders dropped). Previously the app was capturing ALL of the most recent 100 order opportunities presented. I noticed that now only the declined orders are being being reflected in the most recent 100 orders offered, which of course is lowering my acceptance rate. At the start of my dash,I completed 3 orders my acceptance rate did not increase to 97 percent, after the 3 orders accepted, I declined 2 orders and my acceptance rate immediately dropped to 92 percent. I contacted customer service via chat requesting my metrics be updated/corrected, I was told they couldn't do anything about it or the algorithm. However, the day before I was contacted by a DD phone rep.regarding another issue. I requested my customer and acceptance rating be corrected. I informed the rep., I had screenshots as I did with the rep. I chatted with. Shortly afterwards,my stats were updated. Then the following day the orders accepted were still not being reflected in my metrics, yet the declined orders were immediately lowering my acceptance rating ,Is rightaright now my acceptance rate responseis 85 which is a skewed number. I sent a response email to DD, I haven't gotten a response back. I've started getting orders with low pay orders, orders that required the red cards and far distance orders. (I was on one side of town 13.5 miles away from the merchant, when I was closer to other hotspots. I know there were other Dasher's much closer than 13.5 to the store they were directing me to. It's very clear that they are trying to force us so called independent contractors to accept orders that put us at an earnings disadvantage by driving down our acceptance rates. Please let me know if anyone else has experienced these issues. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteI second this question aswell, new to doordash only 5 days new. Ive drove maybe a total of 1hour and 30 minutes so far, I am keeping my milage for my taxes, along with gas, oil etc. I also need to know if the timer running out affects the acceptance rate. I'm thinking of starting a company of a few dashers and monopolizing on doordash deliveries in my area. A crew of 5 all works during the week. At the end of the week the total of all the drivers is added up and split between. Sounds like a good idea huh
DeleteYes it does go against your acceptance rate. If we could just ignore the calls and let the time run out it would be pretty simple to keep our acceptance rate up. Does anybody really think Doordash will make it that simple for you - LOL.
DeleteYeah it does affect it I've tested this out when I first started. And no that's not a good idea because being independent contractors means some of you could cut slack while the others grind hard only to have to split it and earn less. Trust me bud you guys are better just teaming up and going out together keep your own earnings it will not easily work out that way you think it will.
DeleteI have noticed if I decline multiple Walmart orders in short period of time, DoorDash will kick you out of the dash you're on. For instance, yesterday I had a 12pm - 1030 pm timeslot. I declined 7 Walmart orders in a row and next thing I knew, my dash was ended...this was around 2:30 pm. This had happened before after declining 12, yes 12 Walmart orders in a row. I then have to hope there is another time slot opening up so I can continue dashing. Time slots did become available, but for 1 & 2 hour periods so I had to go begging later to keep dashing. Total BS.

DeleteI did notice as a general rule the drivers with high ratings have low acceptance rates and the drivers with the low ratings have high acceptance rates. But.....didn't I read in order to receive your bonus in a region that your acceptance rate needs to be 80 percent for that dash? That might be 3 dollars times 4 deliveries....or more?

DeleteWhat you say is interesting because when you let the timer run out on an offer Doordash will see this as the same thing as declining an offer. I'm not being sarcastic with anybody, but if we could just let the timer run out and not have it drop our acceptance rate then that would be the thing to always do. I think most of would all be near 100 percent. I'm saying this from my experience of almost 10,000 deliveries.
DeleteYour acceptance rate is based off of the last 100 offer that Doordash has sent to you. Sometimes when you decline an offer or let the time run out you will not see your acceptance rate drop because even though you now have that recorded as a declined call, another call which is #100 (the offer you received 100 times ago) will fall off of what you are being judged on. So if that call is falling off and it was a call that was ignored and the time ran out (a declined call) nothing will change as far as the acceptance rate is concerned. You just added a new declined call to your last 100, but one of your declined calls fell off the record so the percentage stays the same.
I will say this though, I don't remember how it was being a new dasher and having under 100 calls. Maybe Doordash treats new dashers different. I don't think so, but I cannot say for sure. I'm not sure. If anybody has any insight please let us know.
Like Damon said, Acceptance Rate wise, declined orders and missed deliveries are the same thing. They are both counted against your acceptance rate. Though I have come to notice that acceptance rate does not matter either.

DeleteYeah it's important because you can't get top Dasher and work any area anytime with a rating below 70. It depends on the area but when I dash in Colorado and I take a low ones 9 out of 10 times within a few minutes I get a decent one to compensate for the bad one. It's been my experience that with higher ratings in the course of a day they give me higher deliveries. I make $300 or so a day on a 16 hr shift roughly and I take multiple low orders to help.Since I started doing that I have actually seen a pay increase. The real solution to the problem is to set minimum delivery amounts at least at night$15-$20 or more so Door Dash doesn't lose a bunch of money. Sorry we can't deliver 1 taco Bell taco to Northside drive in downtown Atlanta at 3am and make money.We have employees to pay to deliver to you. I had a delivery like that where they sent me to a dope trap where 40 people were. I pulled up and I am pretty sure they had an intention of robbing or carjacking me the address didn't exist.It's a safety issue too.I know Door Dash viewsit as a courtesy to the customers to take any order in hopes they order bigger next time,but it's a poor business model in my opinion to take probably a million a week in loss or more because we are catering to people who abuse the service. I take about 10 or so orders a day where Door Dash is losing at least $5 to pay me. People would be mad at first but generally speaking a lot of those people will continue doing that and Door Dash won't benefit from them anyways. Not to mention drivers turn down low orders so there food comes way late and we probably lose them as a customer and perhaps their friends because word of mouth.
ReplyDeleteI have received text messages about an order, but then it doesn't come through my app to accept it, then I get a text stating I missed an order! This has happened to be quite a few times!
ReplyDeleteEven though this hasn't happened to me for a long while, it has happened to me before, and I know exactly what you are talking about. In my experience, the reason this happens is due to having a poor Internet connection, or Doordash is having problems.
DeleteTry turning your wifi off when you dash. If your phone kicks into say a Starbucks wifi, it can get glitchy and you can miss an order.
ReplyDeleteNo driver should accept a two or three or even four dollar order ever. This company should not give any order under five bucks to a driver or any order under four bucks to a bicycle courier. Why on EARTH would any driver ever accept a three dollar order? You're losing money. They have a nerve trying to get ANYONE to accept those orders. They are trying to take advantage of you guys who maybe are new on the job or don't speak English very well and feel insecure and are afraid to say no to them. Personally I only accept orders of at least seven bucks (as long as I don't have to driver too far) and I get as many orders as I can handle. They need us and they should treat us with respect and that means not expecting someone to accept these kinds of orders. Nobody in this country should be making less than $15.00 an hour anyway.
ReplyDeleteMy acceptance rate is 12% I decline all the BS and only take what benefits me. 16 mile orders for 3.50 LOL yeah okay. Then 2.00 add one. Idc if it’s next door to my first order I will not do it. I doordash East Detroit , not a very safe or friendly place. The roads are all terrible and beat your car up badly.

DeleteI order on Doordash from the McDs parking lot to go to my workplace a block away and, because I'm a top dasher, I get offered the delivery first and I save $4 on my food.
DeleteSo to the person who said that you have to keep your acceptance rate up because he or she just got deactivated.... I don't mean to sound demeaning but you are incorrect and are possibly confusing acceptance rate with completion rate which you must complete 80% of the orders you accept to begin with per the agreement you signed... BUT there is absolutely no way DoorDash can penalize you for not accepting order offers. This is based on US laws concerning a non Employee contractor and company... It is business partnership and since you don't get benefits and all that you can be your own boss and dictate how much business you want to bring in so by law all gig Economy employers can not terminate contracts because you don't want to pick up any work... THEY can however get you for picking it up and releasing the order because it hurts their business regimen but yeah... I have been waiting on my appeal for being 10 min late to pick up at the store... I am still waiting for a reply ONE MONTH LATER... I still have access to all the app things and can see the notifications that they need drivers and see the schedules available but if I click on an available schedule link it says "only active dashers can do this" so I'm trying hard to just wait in limbo but

I wish door dash clearly stated that the survey questions are not a means to contact Support staff smdh DD makes you the best money hands down... GH isn't hiring in and Postmates is laughter
I dashed two hours messing with these $3 no tip orders and made like $10.00. Five dollars and hour??? Tat’s not even legal. Lesson learned

DeleteAs far as I've seen the acceptance rate means nothing. Mines at like 57% They even gave me top Dasher by default in my area. I just recently started but I'm definitely not taking any orders with no tips. In a fairly small city and still able to average $60-$70 a day in about 5 hrs of dashing. Only take the orders that make you money. It's not like they don't need drivers. I don't move until I see at least $6 bit my car gets really good mileage so sometimes I'll take smaller ones if they're close enough. I'm not taking anything below $4 tho, and always check the mileage. Rate your deliveries when they're good, it seems to give you more similar orders. Don't just let it time out either that's still a declined order I confirmed that my first day. Instead decline the order and put your reason as too far. People who aren't willing to tip can figure out the hard way that's not how you get service. I have nothing but 5 star ratings so far and the majority of my orders are pretty easy short drives for $6-$10. Don't be afraid to let doordash know what you expect of your orders and you'll start seeing a lot less no tip orders. Those people will either stop ordering or learn to tip. Change is made thru action and communication. Never take an order that doesn't make you profit.

ReplyDeleteI declined a number of Orders and DD THREATENED to pause me for declining so many. They ARE watching. I refuse to drive for a 2.50 Order. It's ridiculous. I live in Memphis TN which is horrible for tips. My first week driving I made 556.00 . When my acceptance level dropped my orders became all but non existent.
