How do dashers dress when they go out dashing? I'm sure that everybody has their own style and their own rules in their mind of how a dasher should dress. Even though Doordash does not have a uniform that dashers are required to wear, they do hand out red Doordash T-shirts to some people. As an independent contractor, you are not required to wear their T-Shirt, but some dashers prefer to wear the T-shirt.
Do you wear the Doordash T-Shirt?
There are many dashers that I have come across that wear the bright red dasher T-Shirt. There may be special advantages by wearing the T-shirt. The main advantage is having instant recognition by the restaurant employees when you walk in to pick up food. They will know who you are and know what you are there for. Hopefully, they will give you special priority service as they know that they have a customer at their home waiting for their food.
Do I wear the Doordash T-Shirt? Let's just say that when it comes to clothing I do not like the color red. Bright colors such as red, yellow, purple, etc. are not my thing. Don't get me wrong. If I was an employee of a company and was required to wear one of these bright colors, I would certainly wear it. Since I am an independent contractor and have a choice here, I am not wearing it. It just comes down to personal preference. To tell you the truth here, I did not even receive a Doordash T-Shirt when I attended the orientation. If I recall, they had run out. I'm sure if I pressed Doordash for a T-Shirt I could get one, but since I don't want one anyways there is no reason for it.
What kind of clothes should you wear when you are out dashing?
There is no rule as to what you have to wear, but you should look presentable. However you dress, you should have a neat and clean appearance. You should have good hygiene habits too. Nobody wants a sloppy looking and smelly dasher delivering their food to them.
When I am out dashing, I just wear a pair of jeans along with a T-Shirt and my sneakers. If it is cold, I will put on my hood sweater. Basically, I am just dressed casual. I have seen some dashers out there with a pair of sweats on, and even though they may be able to pull it off, I would feel really strange in a pair of sweats, but too each their own.
Most restaurants are not going to care about how you are dressed. It is the customers that you are delivering to that might care. There is no reason to overdress for a delivery job. If you are a suit and tie guy, you can leave all of that in your closet. Of course it is always better to overdress than underdress. On the other side of the token, if you are a guy with a muscle T-Shirt on, and you are full of tattoos with piercings all over your face, some customers may have a problem with this. Again, you work for yourself and may appear to customers any way you want, but it is not a professional appearance, and I wouldn't want to scare the customers when I am walking up their driveway. Basically, the two things that you want to avoid are looking intimidating to the customer or looking like a slob.
No matter how hot you may think the weather is, you'll never want to show up to a Doordash customer looking like this |
Women that are Doordash drivers should not overdress. If you are a girl that likes to dress up and apply a lot of makeup to look attractive, dashing is probably not the job for you, and you would be better suited with an office job. Of course, this does not mean that you shouldn't take care of yourself. There is nothing wrong with applying some make up, but you are not going to want to look like you are going out to a club. It will only bring you unwanted attention that you most likely do not want. Casual dress such as a pair of jeans, a T-Shirt or blouse along with a pair of sneakers is all you need. You should definitely leave the high heels at home.
Doordash would appreciate the red, but it is probably not a good idea for a female dasher to dress like this while dashing |
Doordash merchant that requires dashers to wear business casual attire
Recently, I read a post on a forum that was interesting. A dasher had shared a pic of a call that he received. The restaurant had special instructions for the dasher. It said something along the lines of "This merchant requires the dasher to be dressed with business casual attire during pick up." Wow! This seemed kind of strange. I had never seen or heard of anything like this. What do we all supposed to do? Should I carry around a collared button down shirt in case I get a call for a for a restaurant like this?
It's safe to say that I would never do that. I think it is foolish for a restaurant to make such a request. Let's face reality here. I am just the guy delivering the food. Not that there is not any importance to a dasher's job, but I do not get dressed up to deliver food! I am not sure if I would take a call like this or not. It would really depend on my mood. I might be curious as to if they really turn me away when I arrive for the food. It wouldn't seem like a good move on their part as their customer would just have to wait longer to receive their food.
The business attire thing might have been a fancy catering order maybe?
ReplyDeleteI got one of those calls...it was California Pizza Kitchen. Most definitely not fine dining. They didn't turn me away in my jeans and t-shirt
ReplyDeleteLOL - California Pizza Kitchen. Yep, it would be foolish for them to turn you away. I'm sure a lot of dashers would unassign that call after seeing the special request. Good for you for just going anyways!
ReplyDeleteDamon. The part about women's dress and make up is complete bullshit. It's extremely offensive. You appear to be a sexist jerk and need to keep your opinions about what is and isn't appropriate for a woman at work to your damn self! SHAME ON YOU
DeleteShame on me! No - Shame on you! Are you serious? Did you find offense when I said that a woman that is out dashing shouldn't dress like she is going out to a club. You need to learn that there are things that are appropriate and unappropriated in life. There are just certain unwritten rules in life that humans live by.
DeleteHigh heels and lots of make up do not go with this job, and if you think it does then you have a lot to learn in life. I was giving some friendly advise for women to stay safe while out dashing. Being an independent contractor, you can dress anyway that you want. If a girl wanted to dress like a stripper while out dashing that is her choice. The problem comes in to play when this girl starts complaining that men were starring at her during the delivery and this guy and that guy were trying to flirt with her and pick up on her and so on. It all goes with the territory. There is a time and a place for everything.
It is not about being sexist. It is all about the facts of life, and most people learn these facts of life sooner or later. I will not argue too much with somebody over this though, we have all been young and wet behind the ears at one time in our life.
Damon I couldn't agree with you more. It's a safety issue first and foremost. There's too many pervs outhere.
DeleteWell said Damon I totally agree with you-
DeleteUse common sense
Crap, and here I was going to my blood red short shorts and my bright pink halter top.
DeleteHe is right though. Dress to attract dont say shit when it happens.
all of you are blaming women for what a man might do to them. "if you wear make up, this isnt a job for you, because there are gross people in the world" then what is a job for people who wear makeup? not everyone can just be a model
DeleteNow you’re being intentionally ignorant of what he was saying. You know good and well he isn’t talking about make up and IS talking about a “Club girl” look. Same for dudes that wear muscle shirts and piles of tats. Know your audience. Seems you’re just looking for ways to punish men for daring have an opinion.
DeleteIve recently thought to wear an outfit like neo from the matrix mrs doubtfire or batman etc.....
ReplyDeleteI think you will be alright with Neo or Batman. Most people would likely give you a 5 star. If you went as Ms. Doubtfire you might be pushing it. You might freak some customers out and may receive an unwanted call or email from Doordash. I'm just saying. I know people.
DeleteThank you for that info.
ReplyDeleteI'm currently looking into doordash and any other means. As wife just left daughter and I a week ago and I need to start getting income in.
As I need to continue providing for our daughter and keeping her safe.
Will have to suffer with shorts or sweats until I can afford clothing.
Hi! Good luck to you. I always have the utmost respect for a man who stands up and does whatever he has to to support his children.
DeleteThanks for this beautiful info I just started dashing myself and a little freaked out on what to wear cos woman lol
ReplyDeleteThanks for this beautiful info I just started dashing myself and a little freaked out on what to wear cos woman lol
ReplyDeleteWhat about flip flops
ReplyDeleteWhat about T-SHIRT and leggings? With of course the shirt covering
ReplyDeleteThis would work but as a woman Dasher myself I pull my hair back into a ponytail and never wear shorts or sandals of any kind. Toes covered, legs covered and hair back.
DeleteWhy do you say covering of course? Is there something wrong with t-shirt and leggings? I am sure you would be better off letting it show, who doesn't like to see that toe?
DeleteNow that it's summer what does everybody think about female Dashers wearing sandals?
ReplyDeleteWould the restaurant or customers even notice? I know restaurant workers aren't allowed opened toe shoes but we are independent contractors. I normally wear a T-shirt, jeans and tennis. Next week it's suppose to be 107 degrees here in San Antonio, Tx!!! Thats August temperatures in June. The summers here can be extremely hot & humid. I might have to wear long shorts or a sundress and sandals if I can't handle these hot temps this coming summer. People who live in TX will probably understand why Dashers are dressed in shorts.
I've seen Pizza, Amazon, & UPS, delivery drivers in shorts.
Also,
ReplyDeleteI've only been a dasher for 2 months. Can anybody explain how a delivery with a $92 dollar total from an Italian restaurant pay the same as a $10 total from Wendy's???
How do I get a door dash decal for my car? Please help!
ReplyDeleteYou're probably better off without marking your car in any way. It ciukd make you a target for idiots who think you carry cash (like pizza delivery drivers used to do) and make them think about robbing you. Also, they may decide to take your car as some dashes leave their keys in their vehicle (don't do that btw)
DeleteHello I'd like to get a red t shirt with door dash written on it also do u have any other door dash supplies like a larger carrying bag thank you
ReplyDeleteIts now summer I wear a pair of shorts an some sandals an a summer top its about 100 or over out there in Southern California right now!!!
ReplyDeleteShorts tank and vibram 5 fingers. Been mid 90s here east of crapamento.
ReplyDeleteLoved the sexist comments on women's apparel. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteSo the past 2 months being a dasher.
ReplyDeleteI wear tank tops and shorts along with broken down vibram 5 fingers.
It truly doesn't matter. It goes by the area you live and work in.
If you live in the sticks wear shorts only if thats how they dress.
This blog suits his needs and recommendations.
For women yes do not dress like your going to a club unless you want the attention.
When I'm on shift, I wear my Door Dash shirt, it is just more professional when delivering, and people know right away that your their driver. It's a great way to boost your tips and customer ratings. It is respected that you took the time and it looks as though you take your job serious.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to start "dashing" tomorrow here in Phoenix, AZ as a way to supplement my income. I am going to be wearing my mask of course. But does DoorDash require me to wear gloves as well?
ReplyDeleteHello. Good luck with your new Dashing gig. It is not mandatory to wear gloves. I honestly would not advise anybody to wear gloves because of all the cross contamination. Instead, keep some sanitizer with you at all times or keep some soap and water in your trunk and wash your hands whenever you feel the need.
DeleteWhen the pandemic hit us there were way too many dashers out there wearing gloves into the restaurants and bringing all those germs into their vehicles as they continued to wear the gloves and touch their steering wheel and other parts of their car. If you do wear gloves, put them on before you go in a restaurant and dispose of those gloves before you get back into your car. Like I said though, I do not think you should wear gloves and Doordash does not make it a rule to wear gloves. You already mentioned it, but always wear your mask and stay safe.
Extremely sexist of you to instruct women not to wear makeup, of all things. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing makeup in any line of work. If a female construction worker feels like wearing a full face of makeup, she should. If a female engineer feels like wearing makeup, she should. In short: fuck off and keep your backwards opinions to yourself.
ReplyDeleteI started writing a long reply here, but I erased it. I will not waste my time giving an intellectual reply to such an idiotic comment. Anybody that reads your comment knows you have a very low IQ. Sorry, but it's true. Learn how to read, I never said women should not wear make up.
Deleteyep, agreed
DeleteHey (Anonymous),
DeleteWhen it comes to makeup in the professional world, the employer can dictate how that will be. It's usually outlined in the employee handbook, dress code policy and a compliance policy if they have one. Yes, there are employers and companies and lines of work who or that specifically prohibit ANY makeup use. I worked for a medical manufacturing company that builds kidney dialysis machines, tubing, IV bags and components. The dress code was very strict: ABSOLUTELY NO MAKEUP. NONE! NO PERFUME,NO LOTIONS, NO HAIR SPRAY, NO JEWLERY OR PIERCINGS OF ANY KIND. NO LONG NAILS, ARTIFICIAL NAILS,NO NAIL POLISH INCLUDING CLEAR,NO FALSE EYELASHES. HAIR HAD TO BE STYLED NEATLY,CLEANED,SHOWERED EVERY DAY, PINNED UP OR STYLED UP. HAIR NETS/BEARD NETS, FACIAL MASKS..SAFETY GLASSES, STEEL TOES BOOTS OR CLOSED TOES SAFETY SHOES,A BUNNY SUIT OR WHITE SNAPPED UP GOWN WITH A SNAPPED HOOD, LATEX GLOVES. This wall that workers could have. It looked like we worked for the CDC. But the reason was because it was a highly clean, sterile environment and makeup, jewlery and sprays for hair or skin such as perfumes are considered contaminants. If a chip if nail polish or a false eyelashes or some make up residue, even just a very miniscule amount came in contact with sterile tubing for the iv saline bags or the tubing for the dialyzer machine, it could literally kill or severely harm a kidney patient. Companies like this have to exact a very strict measure of dress code and hygiene because patients lives are at stake and they can be sued if workers aren't following regulations. A company I was working before this one in holistics products, vitamin supplements and liquid organic products manufacturing, I was a QA Quality Assurance technician, the dress code requirements were not as strict as the one for medical equipment manufacturing but many entries were similar: No jewlery, hairspray, perfumes, no false eyelashes and no artificial nails, no nail polish including clear. Now since I left the company, they are going for a higher level of food and safety certification, the dress code requirements are getting stricter. They still require hair and beard net, steel toed safety shoes, safety glasses, latex gloves, a smock gown but soon going to probably be more in compliance with no makeup at all. Companies are not willing to risk a billion dollars or more of raw products or medical equipment contamination over your makeup or nails. Your makeup or nails or piercings or jewelry is definitely not worth contamination of over a billion dollars in product or equipment. They just assume that if you can't or won't comply with the rules then go find another job. The company I worked for as QA said this to workers when they were getting a global safe foods certification because they were getting more into the global arena and more international vendors will do business with them, they said to workers during the pandemic to find another job if they won't follow or comply with all the new rules. I love long nails and I was forced to have to give them up even in my former QA position. I was trying to plead a way around it, my boss very kindly said the same thing, that I can either comply or find another job. It was perfectly clear to me. I enjoyed and liked my job enough over my nails. So I got rid of them. So you have to decide as a grown up, mature adult, do you want your job or do you want your makeup or your nails, etc?
Hey (Anonymous Part 2)
DeleteI'll say this too, during the pandemic was not at all a good time to be losing a job over stupid crap because you didn't want to comply and being fired for just cause and that even included not complying completely with Covid mask mandates even, in that state of the economy and lock down was not a good thing. In this economy right now with the direction the country is in now and the high costs of inflation and the wages not keeping up, getting stupidly fired for non compliance is just dumb. So do yourself and your employer a big favor will you? Be an adult and study your employee hand book and the dress code what is acceptable and what is not. Know the rules very well. Don't get write ups they can affect you being promoted to other positions and affect you getting a raise or even get you suspended or fired. Know the rules, ask questions if you don't know. It's always better safe than sorry. Take responsibility as an adult for yourself and for your job. Treat your job and company with respect and not as a sexist thing or think employers are violating you by saying no makeup is allowed because rules like that are for everybody, even my former transgender co workers who were transitioning couldn't use their make up or nails or polish and they still complied. One was one of my former QAs before she went back to finisher her computer science degree, she had to stop using the makeup and the nail polish and she had not a single objection. No, because she saw her job to be more important. And that madam you must see as much more important as a professional in a professional world if you want to be employed and successful. Hope this helps.
So obviously since I am here there is a reason. I wanted to see if delivery drivers had any specific guidelines or rules. Got my first delivery from Walmart. Shocking to say the least! First I kept hearing a thumping outside and that it was the neighbor. No its my delivery driver. Not only was it loud she kept it loud all the way though the delivery. I open the door and she is bent over the back floor board wearing shorts that didnt even come close to fitting. You could see her whole butt and had I been closer probably more. Instead of bring a box or taking the time to carry a few bags she dropped stuff all along the way. Anyone who does this will get a low rating. This is not acceptable when delivering peoples food. I dont expect a uniform but I do expect respect and clothes that fit and look half way presentable. I also had a delivery from Aldis the same day. While not as bad it definitely was not up to par. You drives need to understand you are handling peoples food and I an sure they are already nervous over that. I personally will tip a driver more at the door if they have the respect to represent their job
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your story. Respect. That's a keyword right there. If somebody doesn't have the respect for themselves or others to dress proper while making deliveries then maybe they shouldn't be making deliveries. With that said, there are those that would say "Who in the heck are you to tell me what I should be wearing," I can wear anything I want when I want." Unfortunately, people with that attitude are the same people that generally don't care about their appearance when making deliveries. Sorry you had to go through that as a customer, but I guarantee you that most drivers are not like that. By the way, as independent contractors, there are no rules or guidelines on how a Doordash driver should dress. Dashers can dress and look any way they like.
Deletelike other people have said, youre gross and sexist
ReplyDelete
