What exactly is a small Doordash order?
When I am talking about a small Doordash order, I am not talking about a person that orders a value meal from Jack in the Box or McDonald's. As a Doordash driver, an order for a cheeseburger, fries and a coke are seen often. What I am talking about is the Doordash customer that places an order for one order of tacos from Jack in the Box, or one chocolate chip cookie from McDonald's or one burrito from Taco Bell. Are these people seriously that lazy?
As a Doordash driver, I have picked up small orders and large order, but when is a small order too small? I mean, it seems kind of ridiculous to place an order this small. The customer has to pay a delivery fee, processing fee or whatever else they have to pay to Doordash for just this one item.
My adventures delivering very small Doordash orders
As I think about this subject, I have a couple of my own personal delivery experiences that come in to my mind. The first one was probably about six months ago when I received a dash for "Jack in the Box" at 11:30pm. Nothing strange about this as I always get "Jack in the Box" calls. The strange thing was when I arrived at the restaurant and looked at the order, I couldn't believe that all the customer ordered was one chocolate overload cake. That's it! Nothing else! I don't remember what the price was for this item, but I know it was only a few dollars. If my memory serves me right, it was $2.
As I drove to deliver this chocolate overload cake, I tried to imagine who the person was that placed this order. I know a pregnant woman can sometimes get strange cravings, and I thought to myself that it must be a pregnant young female who has the midnight munchies. When I arrived at the customer's location and knocked on the front-door, I seemed to only be half right.
It was a female, but she was not pregnant. She was a young girl, maybe in her late teens or early 20s. She was as skinny as a twig. Just baffles my mind that somebody would go through all of the trouble of ordering a chocolate overload cake so late at night and pay all of those Doordash fees for it. She must really love those cakes.
Another occurrence that comes to my mind is when I received a call from Postmates. As I have mentioned before, I rarely drive and deliver for Postmates, but I tried to end this particular night by doing one call for Postmates. Upon arriving at the restaurant and viewing the order, I seen that the customer only ordered a drink.
I don't remember what kind of drink it was, but it was something that the restaurant just grabbed out of their freezer. It was not a drink that they had to make. They handed it to me, I paid them, and I was on my way. When I looked at the customer's location, it was 12 miles away. I actually had to drive 12 miles to deliver this customer one drink. Truly amazing! I'm not complaining as this call paid me a decent amount of money, but I am truly amazed at some of the things that people do.
