When Doordash began experimenting with their new pay model, they tested it in a few selected markets before rolling it out to all markets. This new pay model was supposed to be more fairer and consistent for the drivers, and dashers were supposed to make more money than they did with the old pay model. During this beta phase, Doordash stated that after thousands of positive feedback from drivers, the vast majority of dashers preferred this new pay model.
The reason that I ask this is because I have yet to meet a dasher that is happier with the new pay model. When I read about the subject online, the vast majority of dashers dislike this new pay model. Some dashers even do their overall math and prove that they made more money with the old pay model. We are not talking about chump-change here. Your average dasher is losing hundreds of dollars per month that they would have earned before.
Everything comes down to the money that a dasher is earning, and nobody in their right mind is happy when they are making less than they used to. Again, I ask, "Who are these dashers that are happy with the new pay model?" Please come forward and share with us how you are making more money than you used to. The way the new pay structure is set up, it is highly unlikely, but maybe a supporter out there knows something the rest of us don't know. Please prove your case to us. I beg you!
The way I see the new Doordash pay structure is nothing but smart business by Doordash. The company has to think about profits and how they can make the most profit possible, and by enabling this new pay model, they have done just that. On the Doordash website and Doordash official blog, you can even view testimonials from Doordash drivers that support the new pay model. I sure wish that we could email these people. Do they even really exist? There is even stats showing how drivers earn 24 percent more than they used to for deliveries that are under $20, and a 15 percent jump in pay for orders that take over 35 minutes to complete. This really amazes me. I don't believe that there is any evidence for this claim. It seems like a bunch of made up nonsense to me.
The only good thing that about the new pay model is that we can now see the amount that we are guaranteed and the driving distance, but I would trade that information in a heartbeat if I could have the old pay model back. With the old pay structure, in my market, we were guaranteed $5 plus the customer tip. Most of the order paid $8, $9, $10 and sometimes even more. With this new pay model, orders usually pay $5, $6 or $7. Sure, once in a while we still get the $8 and up orders, but they are far and few.
The reason that we are not seeing the higher paying orders basically comes down to us not receiving the small customer tips anymore. In the past, you would get your $5 and the customer tip. If the customer tipped $3 or $4, your pay would be $8 or $9 for those orders. Now, with Doordash applying the customer's tip money to the guaranteed pay, you are not seeing any of that tip money unless it is a very large tip, and when that happens you will only get a percentage of it.
I will ask one more time and beg for the new Doordash pay model supporters to come out and show yourself. Are you out there? Do you exist? Please share with the rest of us the details of how you make much more money than you used to. Are we all missing something here? Everything that I have written here is my opinion, and I am very sure that the vast majority of dashers agree with me about this subject. For this reason, I want to hear from the other side, the new Doordash pay supporters, because I am having a difficult time believing that they exist.
