Of course all of this is many years away, but it would be foolish to argue that self-driving vehicles are not in our future. Doordash would like to bring the future to us as soon as possible. They know that the time is coming when self-driving vehicles will be the norm. It could be a decade or more away, but as I've already mentioned, Doordash would love to add self-driving cars to make their deliveries ASAP.
Doordash has acquired Scotty Labs
Scotty who? Scotty Labs is an autonomous and remote-controlled vehicle tech company that Doordash recently acquired. The amount of the purchase was not disclosed, but Doordash has definitely been on a shopping spree lately by investing in companies that will benefit their future. The Scotty Labs deal came only weeks after Doordash acquired Caviar for 410 million dollars.
Would Doordash really replace human drivers with self driving vehicles?
If it were possible today, they would do it in a heart-beat, and if you think otherwise then you are in some deep denial. Of course 99.9 percent of you reading this right now know without a doubt they would. Why wouldn't they? Doordash is not an isolated case here though. There is a long list of companies that would benefit from self-driving vehicles. Doordash of course has taken an extra step that most of these companies have not by acquiring a company that specializes in self-driving and remote-controlled vehicles.
Think about it for a minute. Doordash would no longer have to worry about things like the controversial tip stealing allegations or things like AB 5. All of that would cease to exist when they no longer have to deal with human delivery drivers. Profits would rise tremendously and lawsuits would decrease. At least the lawsuits from human drivers would. I'm sure Doordash would still be making lots of appearances in the court room for things such as their self-driving cars hitting people and other vehicle related cases. With all of that said, for now, all of this is a Doordash dream, but it's definitely a dream that Doordash intends to turn in to reality.
At 2:14am Eastern Time, on August 29th, 2027, Dootdash becomes entirely "self-driver."
ReplyDeleteBy 4:00am Dashdash Zones across the world are bright red seeking human drivers for delivery jobs even while most of the self-driving fleet is limping back to HQ having sustained damage from masked assailants wielding weapons ranging from semi-automatic rifles to spike-strips.
Some were terminated in the firld and while a few self-drivers return unscathed they did so still in possession of the food they were charged with delivering.
Why? Their attampts at delivery had been foiled when each car's link to the Earth's GPS satellite network was successfully jammed leaving each with only one option, return to HQ; the location hardwired into their system for safety and securty
