When Doordash acquired rival food delivery company Caviar last year it was only a matter of time that Caviar drivers had until they were forced to switch over and start using the Doordash app. Doordash has given Caviar drivers a long time to continue using the Caviar platform, but that time is ending and the Caviar app will no longer be accessible on August 24, 2020.
Caviar is making it easy for Caviar drivers to start using the Doordash app
Caviar has simplified the transition to Doordash for their drivers. All Caviar drivers should have received an Opt-In email from Caviar to create their new Doordash account. If you are a Caviar driver and have not received this email, then you should contact Caviar on your own as soon as possible and inquire about it. Just let them know that you never received the Opt-In email.
The Opt-In email is very clear and makes things as easy as possible for Caviar drivers. All it takes is a simple click of the Opt-In button. Once this is done your new Doordash account will be created for you, and all personal information and bank account information will be transferred over to your new Doordash account.
According to the email the Opt-In period will end on August 2, 2020. If a driver does not reply to this Opt-In email it does not mean that a Caviar driver cannot work for Doordash. It's just that they will have to sign up for Doordash as a new Dasher which can cause delays. The transition to the Doordash platform will be much easier for a Caviar driver if they just Opt-In.
Do Caviar drivers have to use the Doordash app?
Well officially you don't, but if you want to continue to be offered delivery opportunities then you will need to use the Doordash platform. According to the email, the closer we get to August 24, 2020, the more and more the calls will be directed to the Dorodash app. That means that those continuing to use their Caviar app may see less orders as the full merger approaches.
The best thing for Caviar drivers to do right now is probably to hurry up and Opt-In as soon as possible so that their Doordash account is ready for them to use as soon as possible. Waiting until the last minute will probably not be very wise as you don't want any delays.
What about Caviar drivers that have already signed up on their own for Doordash?
According to the email, Caviar drivers that have already signed up with Doordash on their own but have not had their Doordash accounts activated yet can still use the Opt-In choice to immediately have their Doordash account activated. It would probably be best to do this because as aforementioned you don't want any delays. When the Caviar app is no longer accessible you want to make sure that you can continue to work.
What about drivers that work for both Doordash and Caviar?
If you are like me and have both a Caviar account and a Doordash account, then you really don't have to do anything. Basically we are losing Caviar. This should mean more Doordash calls for Doordash drivers though as all Caviar calls will now be dispatched to Doordash. I don't know how good the Caviar following was, or if they had loyal customers, but if so hopefully Doordash will satisfy them.
