Recently, a video has been going viral that shows a Doordash driver confronting a customer that lied to Doordash about not receiving their food. This video really hit home with a lot of Doordash drivers as many dashers have had similar false claims made against them in the past.
The story is always somewhat the same. A Doordash customer orders food from the Doordash platform, and after receiving their food, they contact Doordash and say that the dasher never delivered their food so that they wont have to pay for it. Below is the video that has been getting a lot of attention.
Believe it or not, the thief in this video is a CVS manager that ordered food from Doordash and lied about not receiving it. She basically wanted a nice tasty meal, but didn't feel the need to pay for it. When the Dasher repeatedly asks the Doordash customer if she received the food, the customer would never answer the question. There was no doubt that this customer received her food and tried to pull a fast one, and probably had done this sort of thing before. Surely, she must have been very surprised to see the Dasher show up back at CVS.
The Dasher did indeed make the delivery to the lying Doordash customer
A bit earlier, the Dasher had handed the food to the customer and marked the delivery completed as normal. A few minutes later, the dasher received the notification that the customer marked the food as not delivered. Basically, the customer is telling Doordash that the Doordash driver has marked the order as delivered without really delivering the food.
This does not make the Doordash driver look good in the eyes of Doordash. Instead of the real thief being punished, Doordash will punish the Dasher by giving them a contract violation point. What this is saying is that the Dasher broke the contract they had with Doordash to deliver a certain customer's food. By not delivering the food (according to the customer) the Dasher will see this point on their metrics ratings. Too many contract violations, and a Dasher's account can be terminated.
The Doordash contract violation is not fair to Dashers
Trust me when I say that I understand Doordash's position here. I mean let's face reality. They are looking out for their customers. What if the customer was telling the truth about not receiving their food. Doordash cannot just straight out tell them that they are lying. Even if the driver said that they delivered the food, it would just become a he said she said situation. Doordash will always have to refund the customer or have another Dasher pick up a new order for them. They'll never want to take a chance of losing a good customer.
With that said, Doordash shouldn't assume that just because a customer says that a Dasher did not deliver their food that they are telling the truth. As I have said, there are some untrustworthy drivers, but I would say that there are ten times as many untrustworthy customers. This contract violation statistic that the Doordash platform has on each driver is complete crap. Doordash should not use this as a scare tactic and to make Dashers feel guilty about something that they didn't do.
When a Dasher is falsely accused, all it does is anger them and think negatively about Doordash. Meanwhile, you have some low-life thieves enjoying free food. Doordash needs to get rid of this contract violation thing. They just need to focus on monitoring customer's accounts. If a customer, or an address is claiming too many non-deliveries, they need to disable those Doordash customer accounts.
CVS reviews video footage and confirms that the Dasher did deliver the food
Getting back to the story at hand, and the attention that is has gotten, the CVS district manager has called the Dasher in this video and confirmed to her that video footage indeed does show her handing the food to the Doordash customer. The fate of the thief is not in anyone's hands except for CVS, but most people are hoping that this girl gets fired and loses her job. Hopefully CVS will do the right thing here.
Doordash terminated the Doordash's drivers account
Unfortunately, the Dasher's account has been terminated by Doordash. The reason for the termination actually was not because of the contract violation. Instead, it was for going back to the customer's location and confronting the customer about the situation. I call BS on this! The Dasher was just standing up for herself and had everything on video footage.
There was no assaulting or threats of any kind. The Dasher simply asked the girl if she received her food or not. She wanted it all on camera. The Dasher was just trying to protect herself so that she does not get in trouble. Nobody should ever get in trouble for standing up for themselves. Doordash seen it a different way though, and I personally hope that it will eventually be overturned.
What a Dasher needs to do to protect themselves
All Dashers out there need to prepare and protect themselves for situations like this. We know that going back and confronting a customer will only get us disabled. Again, being right or wrong does not matter. So what is a Doordash driver to do? It's all about proof of delivery, and technology is our friend.
When making a delivery, all Dashers today should be using a time stamp camera. The pics will show the date, time and address of where the pic is being taken. With many of the deliveries these days being no-contact, most of these pics will be fairly easy. After dropping the food on the floor, just take a picture. Again, all the information is on the pic that Doordash would need just in case a customer accused you of not delivering their food. There are more than a few apps out there that you can download on to your cell phone. Here is the one that I use.
If it's a delivery where you have to actually see the customer, just take a pic of the food in your hand as your walking up. If the situation calls for it, take a pic of the food as the customer grabs the food from you or while they are walking away with it. None of this really matters. As long as you take a pic you will be safe from any lying customer. If Doordash contacts you about a customer claiming non-delivery of their food, your pic is all the proof you need, and you will not get in any trouble.
This is very helpful, thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cara. Remember to always protect yourself and use that timestamp on every delivery! Happy dashing!
DeleteHad my first lying customer yesterday. I even told Doordash I could describe the lady. I remember because she was the only one who didn't tip me. They didn't call me or anything. I saw it when I looked at my ratings. But my GPS and me describing the lying customer wasn't good enough. They still said there wasn't proof I made the delivery. Without us they have no delivery but they don't stand behind us.
ReplyDeleteHello. I'm sorry about what happened to you. If you Dash long enough it is bound to happen to you at some point. This is why the timestamp camera is so important to use for each and every delivery you do. Your word or anything else you through at Doordash will not help your case.
