Doordash Now Shortens the Time to Accept or Reject an Order

The one thing that all food delivery apps have in common is that they all strive to improve. Well, at least one would thing so. While dashing today, I noticed something new and strange when I would receive a new Doordash ping, and it was not anything positive. I cannot understand why a company would do something that does not benefit them, their drivers or the customers.

Doordash changes time allowed to accept or reject an order from 90 seconds to 40 seconds

The countdown to accept or reject a Doordash call is now starting at 40 seconds. No longer do we have the 90 seconds that many of us are so used of having to decide if we want to accept an order or not. Why Doordash made the decision to shorten a dasher's time to accept a call or not is beyond me and makes absolutely no sense. Is this an improvement of some sort? It certainly is not and hopefully they will change it back.

I want my 90 seconds back to decide if I want to accept a Doordash order or not

Whenever I would receive a Doordash offer, I always liked the idea that I had 90 seconds to decide if I wanted to accept it or not. The 90 seconds would give me enough time to see exactly where the restaurant was and where the customer was located. Now, with the 40 second thing going on, I have to really rush to do this.

Also, there are times when I am in a traffic situation that does not allow me to analyze the call right away. When I have 90 seconds, I have time to pull over and see where it is that this call would be taking me. With this new 40 second thing, I do not have the time to do that. I have to make an instant decision right away. Geez, I really hope no dasher out there gets in to a car accident because of this.

Why would Doordash change a dasher's acceptance time to 40 seconds?

I have been trying to think of why Doordash would do this, and I cannot come up with any rational idea. I mean, really, it was somebodies idea, and others had to agree with the idea for it to be approved. How would this improve things though? Will it get the customer's order to them faster? Of course it wont. Would it improve the dasher's experience and keep him or her on top of their game? Of course it wont. Why then would Doordash even think of doing this?

Doordash should only make changes when it improves things for the dasher and the customer

Having enough time to analyze an order before accepting it is always something I admired about Doordash. By minimizing the time that a dasher has to accept an order is a step in the wrong direction and does not improve anything. I have had experience with Postmates, and one of the things that I never liked about Postmates was the small amount of time that they gave a driver to decide if they wanted to take an order or not. I always thought that Doordash had this right by giving their dashers enough time to make up their mind if they wanted to accept an order or not. If anybody out there has a logical answer as to why Doordash has done this, please share.
