When Doordash is not Giving you any Calls

For a dasher, there is nothing worse than sitting around for an hour or longer waiting for a call. Anybody that has been dashing for a good amount of time can surely relate to what I am talking about. As workers who do not get paid by the hour, dashers that experience a long wait time hoping for that ping to come may get so angry that they swear that they're not going to ever dash for this company again.

I had a rather unpleasant experience with my dash today. I was scheduled to dash today from 11:00a.m. to 10:00p.m. The day started out just like any other day, I was not making a ton of money, but as I said, it was just an ordinary day. I was getting calls pretty consistently throughout the day and by 5p.m. I had earned $75. Then something happened. Suddenly, I was put on the Doordash shit list. One hour went by, and I did not receive a call. Two hours then went by, and I still did not receive a call. Third hour went by, then the fourth hour and still no call. By the time 10p.m. came around and my shift had ended, I did not receive a call for five hours! This is an all time record!

What should a Doordash driver do when Doordash is not sending them any orders?

A dasher can sit around at a parking lot at one of Doordashes so called hotspots for hours if they want, but for me that wait can only be for so long. Do you honestly think that I am gong to sit in a parking lot for five hours waiting for a call? No way! The longest time that I will give Doordash to send me a call is one hour, and I am not a happy camper at that point. Today, I spent the last four hours of not getting a call at my home, and I was so annoyed after a few hours that I was not going to even take any calls if they finally did send any my way. Sure, I could have ended my dash, but I figured that I would take up space on the schedule and not let anybody else jump on to be disappointed. I understand that business can get slow for Doordash sometimes, and maybe they do not have any orders to fill, but this is usually not the case as I will explain.

Is Doordash not sending me orders because business is slow?

This is always a possibility. Doordash, just like any other company will get slow at times. They have their peek times and down times. Most dashers out there will come to the conclusion that business is slow when they are not getting orders. What other cause can it be? It's the only thing that seems to make sense. If you as a dasher are not getting any calls, then people must not be ordering food. Sounds very logical, and I'm sure that is the case in a very small percentage of the time, but most of the time, when you are not getting calls, you are on what I like to call the Doordash shit list.

Why did Doordash stop sending this dasher orders?

Honestly, I have no idea why I stopped receiving calls today. Why was I put on the Doordash shit list? I wish I knew the answer. Maybe I did something wrong? Nope. There was nothing abnormal. I have been put on the Doordash shit list in the past, but never for five hours. I have had a couple of hours go by when I did not receive a call, but five hours! That is ridiculous!

Does Doordash favor some dashers over other drivers?

Many will say that Doordash does not favor certain dashers over other drivers, and I am not saying that is the case, but I would not dismiss it either. I have an an advantage and privilege of  being able to observe if this is true or not over most other dashers. There are times when both me and my wife are dashing at the same time in different vehicles and in our home region.

Let's take today as an example. As I mentioned, I did not receive a call from 5p.m. to 10 p.m. If I did not have anybody out there to compare my dashing calls to, I would assume that business was just slow for Doordash. That was not the case here though. My wife was out there dashing and getting ping after ping. She was getting non-stop calls. As soon as she made a delivery, her phone would ping right away and she would be off to the next restaurant to pick up the next customer's order. Why was I not getting any orders? Only Doordash knows. As we can see, I was on the Doordash shit list.

I believe that Doordash always has one driver in each region on their shit list. He, or she, is the dasher that Doordash has as the driver that will not get any calls, to keep all the other drivers busy and happy. If any of those other drivers get off their schedule for some reason, Doordash knows that they have their shit list driver as a back up. Again, I do not have any proof of this, and you can believe what you want to believe, but I think this is the case. Why? Because I am not the only one that this has happened to. I know other drivers that have been in the same situation that I was in today. While everybody else was getting calls, they did not receive anything for many hours. They were of course on the Doordash shit list. I'm assuming it happens to all dashers, and if it does happen to you, don't take it personal. I would just advise you to not spend a ridiculous amount of time in some parking lot waiting for a call. After an hour, head on home, and if you receive a call while at home, take it if you want. Usually, when you receive a call they will keep you going from there. Happy dashing!!!

  2. I have never done bicycle delivery, but I would assume that to do so you need to work in a large metropolitan area. If you have not received an order in two weeks, I am pretty sure something is wrong with the app. That is not normal at all and is unheard of. You need to contact Doordash directly and let them know what is happening. We can guess about what the problem is, but only Doordash can look and give you a definite answer as to what the problem is. Good luck to you and please share your outcome with us here just in case another bicycle rider encounters the same problem as you.

  3. Sorry Damon but Door Dash will not help you with this. I know, I have been trying to get them to help me. The app isn't broken, not when you install it on a fresh cell phone, fresh from Play Store. The problem is on the back end, and Door Dash has never told anyone what the problem is. That clearly says they are limiting certain Dashers.

The only way out of this is to get a spot on Foodjets, Grubhub, Postmates, or even Uber Eats.

    1. Sorry about the unhelpful nature of Doordash. You are right though about running multiple apps. Personally I use Doordash, Postmates and Uber Eats.

  8. been dashing since last yr.. since the new schedule thing rolled out its been like the hunger games but these last 2 weeks have been ridiculous.. i was signed in for 15.9 hrs last week and only made 71$.. for that amt of time i would normally be close to $200.. i ended a lot of dashes early too since no orders.. now i just sign in and sit at home.. starting my other platforms back up soon.. over saturation with drivers is a issue in my area too now..

  9. In my 4th week and this is becoming the norm for me too. I schedule everything from 630am to 1am and sit at home for hours. Going to sign up for some other apps too. Also,"Dash Now" or scheduling are not offered around lunch or suppertime so who gets to deliver during those busy times? I don't get it!

  11. In regards to getting on the 'shit list', does this happen more often/solely to drivers that 'dash now'? Or does it happen just as often to drivers who schedule? It would make sense to me that the 'shit list' backup driver would be a 'dash now' driver. But I have no proof of this.

  12. I started dashing today at 8:30 am to 1pm. I was getting consistent orders, then bam 10am no orders and I see another dasher ( these older people are always dashing) they are getting orders. After an hour I contacted support and let loose on them because I drove 30 minutes away for this dash. Their reply was following troubleshooting steps. I ended the day then checked back in. I started getting dashes after those people left. I also hate walmart grocery orders, they're a waste of time. No I will not take that order, it's not worth it 19 miles for 4.25.

  13. I've been on the shit list before as well. Probably about 2 years ago. Didn't receive an order for a couple days straight. Contacted Doordash multiple times every hour on the second day non stop. Then they finally said they will put in a notice to one of their technicians. I guess that worked because soon after I started receiving orders. Or maybe they realized this guy was on the shit list for to long he might be a cause for concern in court. Doordarsh is a corrupt multibillion dollar company. They seriously do not care for you. If u think they do, talking from experience, you are fooling yourself. 3 years dashing now.

Started doing Doordarsh today on a bike. Didn't receive an order for hours and still havnt. Then switched over to car, started receiving orders. Switched back over to bike. Nothing. I live in a small town but with a lot of restaurants so a bike would be perfect but I guess not! Doordash prefers cars because they know the food will be delivered quicker and the payout will be less for driver in a car since its a lot easier in a car. Which in returns means bigger profits for doordash. Its a hate or love relationship. Some days I make 300+ its great! Somedays I get screwed like a slave that we are for this company. And its horrible. Every dasher should recieve free physiological Healthcare, counseling, nutritionalist, etc. For 2 years of service.

    1. Hello Sacred. Thanks you for your input. Bike riding huh. I've never done it, but I can certainly say that you do deserve more pay for bicycle deliveries.
