My Real Life Doordash Pay Proves how Dashers Have Been Getting Screwed

In a previous article, proof was given that a Doordash driver would receive more money for their deliveries when they actually received their tips versus having their tips factored into their guaranteed pay. A fictional example was given that showed how a dasher would earn more every single day if they received the tip money on top of what Doordash was paying them. It is recommended that you read that article before reading this one.

In this article, I am going to use my real life earnings to prove how us dashers will make more money by actually receiving our customer tips. Again, I am going to use the same pay structure that I did with the previous article of $5 per delivery plus the customer's full tip. This is of course the real-life pay structure that Doordash previously used years ago before they started to use their tip stealing scheme.

My real life dashes that prove that dashers will earn more money by receiving customer's tips

I am going to share my last 50 dashes here. I will show how much I actually earned with the Doordash subsidized tip stealing scheme that has been going on for the past couple of years. I will also show how much the customer tipped, and I will show how much I would have earned if I actually received customer's tips.

Dashers are better off receiving their tips

It is no surprise here that my Doordash earnings would have been more if I had received my tips. With Doordash stealing the tips, I earned $43.01 less than I would have if I had been paid $5 per delivery plus 100 percent of customer tips. Remember that the dashes given here were my actual real life dashes for my past 50 deliveries. On an average week I usually complete about 100 deliveries, but I am not going to keep on adding and adding all of the money that Doordash has been stealing. If we keep these figures as our average and round off, that means that Doordash would be stealing $80.00 per 100 dashes from me. That means that I should be earning $80.00 more per week.

After adding up the numbers here, it sort of surprises me that the difference for my last 50 deliveries was only $43.01. I'm sure that if I did this again the amount would be much more most of the time. With that said, we are still talking about a lot of money being stolen here. At $80 per week, we are talking about $320 per month. For most dashers that is quite a bit of money. The amount really is irrelevant though as the Doordash driver should be receiving every penny that customer's leave as tips for their drivers.

I found it interesting that seven of my customers were non-tippers. This is just about accurate with the 15 percent claim of Doordash customers not tipping. With these seven calls I would have only got paid $5.00. Also, with the Doordash pay model scheme I did not have any calls that paid me over $10. If I had been receiving $5 per delivery plus the customer tips I would have earned $10 or more on 12 calls. One last fact here is that with the Doordash pay model scheme, I received a higher pay amount on only 19 of the 50 calls.

It's insane to believe that dashers are better off with the Doordash pay model scheme

It really baffles my mind when I read comments from some dashers stating that they are not happy that the crooked Doordash pay model scheme is coming to an end and is going to be changed. Have they never added up the numbers? Surely, these dashers were not around when we got paid $5 plus the customer tip. They never experienced it.

All they know is that they are happy to know how much they will be earning up front and that they are glad that Doordash is taking the gamble at a customer not tipping and not them. This is the crap that Doordash has been feeding them and they have bit.

Lesson to Doordash - What it all comes down to is that stealing is wrong

No matter what numbers we add up, what everything comes down to is that stealing is wrong. Sure, there can always be excuses made up to make it seem like there is a good reason for stealing, but no matter what the reason is it is never acceptable. It is just plain out wrong.

A stance that Doordash has been making for years is that they are stealing tips to benefit the dasher. Of course they do not say straight out that they are stealing tips as that would make them look like the thieves that they are. Instead, they have given a bunch of gibberish about boost pay, etc. to make their thievery look like it benefited everybody.

They explained to dashers that they would now be protected from the no-tippers and that they, Doordash, would be the ones taking the risk of customers that don't tip. They made themselves sound like the good guys by saying that they will make up the money for the cheap tippers.

A good percentage of dashers bought in to this garbage and believed that Doordash was doing them a favor when all along Doordash only had their interest in place. Yes, Doordash has pocketed millions of dollars by stealing dasher's tips the past couple of years.

What will the new Doordash pay model be?

Even though we have proven that the old pay model of $5 per delivery plus the customer tip is better than the current pay model scheme, this does not mean that Doordash is going to go back to the way things once were. Many have assumed that since the change was announced that things will go back to the way they once were.

Honestly, I wish that Doordash would go back to the $5 plus customer tip pay model. I do not think that Doordash will do it though. There was a reason that they made the change and implemented the pay model scheme. Apparently, Doordash was not taking in the amount of money that they wanted so a change to the pay model was done.

What we do know about the new pay model that will be coming out is that dashers will receive the customer tip on top of their pay. What that pay is going to be is anyone's guess. I mean, what if Doordash said that they are going to pay $1 per dash plus the customer tip. They could do that if they wanted to. I don't think it would be a good idea because they would lose a lot of dashers that would flee to rival companies, but I just want to point out that they can do whatever they want.

Doordash can even go to a Postmates style pay model that pays a certain amount per pick-up, per drop-off, actual wait time at the merchant and a certain amount per mileage from merchant to the customer. Of course the dasher would also receive the full tip. It's an easy guess that most dashers would not be happy with a Postmates style pay model. Dashers don't want anything similar to Postmates, Uber Eats or any other rival company.

I'm sure that I am not the only one that is looking forward to the new Doordash pay model. We are all curious to see what Doordash is going to come out with. Are they going to come up some new kind of scheme? Are they going to use trickery with words to fool people again? Are they going to go back to the $5 per delivery plus customer tip? Is their new pay model going to be something that we all like? There are so many questions, and I'm sure Doordash is sitting at the round-table trying to come up with something that will benefit them as much as possible.
