All Doordash drivers in the state of California must take an online safety course before July 1, 2021. Not doing so may cause an interruption in their dashing ability. The course if very short, and there's really no reason for any Californian not to complete it.
Why do Dashers have to take the online safety course?
It's mandatory for all California gig workers to take this online safety course. It's California law and was part of the Yes on Proposition 22 victory. Doordash drivers, as well as all other gig workers in California must take the training course.
If I already took the online safety course do I need to take it again?
No you do not. A question such as this would apply to those that started their gig job after January 1, 2021. Many people hired after the new year were required to take the safety course before they started working. A gig worker's company will let them know if and when they must complete the online safety course.
If I already took the online safety course with another gig company do I have to take it again?
Yes you do. If you took the online safety course for company A, you are good to go as far as they are concerned. If company B now asks you to take the online safety course, you are going to have to take the course with them also. They don't have the information from company A and are not going to ask them for it.
What is this gig worker online safety course about anyways?
The course will cover topics and issues regarding your safety, food safety, avoiding food contamination, time and temperature controls and personal hygiene. You'll also learn about safe driving which includes tips on collision avoidance and defensive driving techniques.
The course will also explain the company's no zero policy when it comes to drugs and alcohol. Sexual harassment is also covered. What it is, best practices to avoid it and the process for reporting it.
Do I have to take and pass a test?
No. There is no test that needs to be taken. The gig worker online safety course is simply reading material. It says that it's a five minute read, but for fast readers it may take only a couple of minutes. After reading, a simple click of the "Complete Safety Course" button will finish the course and it's all done.
