Are Restaurants Opening Up Restrooms for Doordash Drivers now?

Dashing through the pandemic forced us Dashers to go through a lot of things that we never thought that we'd have to deal with. One of those things was our careful planning of what we would need to do if we needed to use the restroom. It's something that we never gave any thought to in the past. It just wasn't something we ever had to think of.

When the restaurants started closing down due to Covid 19

When the pandemic began, restaurants were not allowing any customers, Doordash drivers included, from entering their establishment. Doordash drivers had to pick up the food from the drive-thru, and if there was no drive-thru, Dashers would have to wait outside in the parking lot for them to bring the food out to the car.

It was a whole new world to us. This new Coronavirus had everybody on edge. Understandably, us Doordash drivers, along with everybody else could not use the restroom at any restaurant. These restaurants didn't have pity for anybody. Workers were following their supervisors instructions and would not allow anybody to use their restroom or even enter the restaurant.

Dashers had to plan where they would use the restroom

A lot of Dashers started dashing in areas that were not too far from home. In other words, they were prepared if nature called. They would be able to make it home without a problem. If they were too far away from home, they may have had an accident, and they didn't want anything like that to happen.

Dashers that lived dangerously and traveled far from home would naturally learn all the places that they could use the restroom. There weren't many, but Dashers would learn what gas stations or supermarkets would allow them to use the restroom.

Restaurants open up but Dashers still cannot use the restaurant's restroom

Eventually, as we all know, the world came out with vaccines and supposedly a bit more control of the disease. Restrictions were lifted in a lot of areas, and many restaurants opened back up though most merchants still required a mask to be worn. Of course, you had the restaurants that didn't care about masks and were just happy to be open for business.

As Doordash drivers were now allowed to go into restaurants, you would think that access to the restroom would come with that. That is certainly not the case though. Even though a lot of merchants have opened up, they are still not allowing customers to use their restrooms.

Sometimes it seems like some of the merchants are in no rush to open up their restrooms. The employees seem happy about having closed restrooms as they don't have to clean up the restrooms like they normally would. I'm sure most would agree that it's probably the least anticipated chore of working in a restaurant.

When will restaurants open up the restrooms to the public again?

I have observed that many of the restaurants that are allowing customers to dine-in are leaving the restrooms open for customers. This is not true for all, but for most it seems this way. Other restaurants that are not allowing any dine-in generally still have their restrooms closed. This is how some of the merchants in my area stand at this moment with their restrooms:

Wingstop - No dine-in and no restrooms for the public

Jack in the Box - No dine-in - No restrooms for the public

Burger King - No dine-in - Restrooms are available to the public

Habit Burger - Dine-in available - Restrooms are available to the public

Subway - Dine-in available - No restrooms for the public

McDonalds - No Dine-in - No restrooms for the public

Del Taco - No Dine-in - No restrooms for the public

Waba Grill - Dine in available - No restroom for the public

Weinerschnitzel - Dine in available - Restrooms are available to the public

Taco Bell - Dine-in available - Restrooms are available to the public

From these 10 merchants, four of them have a restroom available to use. Things are becoming a bit normal little by little as time goes on. Even though most restaurants are not letting us use the restroom, it's nothing like it was during the heart of the pandemic.

My prediction is that by the end of 2021 things will be back to normal again. I'm talking about restroom use at all restaurants and life in general. Hopefully I am right
