As Doordash drivers, we deliver to all kinds of different places and different people. We deliver to people's houses, but we also make deliveries to the work force. Delivering to commercial buildings and warehouses are normal delivery stops. I have also delivered to prisons, psychopath wards, hospitals, schools and many other places. If an individual dashes long enough and in many different areas throughout the years, they are sure to get their share of different kinds of environments that they will deliver to.
Security guards ordering Doordash
In this generation, the security force really has it made compared to generations of the past. With a few clicks of their cell phone, they can have a Doordash driver deliver them basically any type of food they want. Technology has done wonders for everybody, but trust me when I say that security officers probably appreciate it a bit more than others.
I've made Doordash deliveries to security officers at all kinds of different businesses. Most of the time, when a guard places a Doordash order, they are there waiting for you when you arrive. If there is a closed gate or anything like that, they are usually the ones that have to open it so they know when you arrive.
Security guards appreciate Doordash more than your average person
A top reason that many of these security guards appreciate companies like Doordash so much is because a lot times they cannot leave their post. This is especially true when they are the only guard at the property. They cannot just straight out abandon their post and leave to go get something to eat.
This is when Doordash is handy for them. The guard will not have to risk their job by leaving their post for a half hour to pick up something to eat. There's no doubt that guards of the past were left with a dilemma, but the food delivery industry has surely solved that problem for them.
The graveyard shift security guards and Doordash
Deliveries to security guards have come about at all times of the day, but the majority of these deliveries have been between 10pm and 3am. These are the late night working security officers. Basically, the graveyard shift guys. Yep, these graveyard guards seem to use Doordash more than day guards.
Most of these deliveries have been to one man guarded post. Sometimes, there were multiple guards, but if so, it was almost always guaranteed to be a quiet post. What I mean by that is that it was posts like a closed warehouse, a closed construction site or something similar.
Very rarely have my deliveries to guards been at hospitals or any other places like that where there was a lot of people around. Usually, guards at these types of places had easier access to food. Of course, that doesn't mean that hospital workers, including the guards, don't ever order Doordash. It's just not as common. Why would they? they usually have a nice big cafeteria at hospitals.
All in all, Doordash and other food delivery companies have been a blessing to the security force. Guards working the late night shift, or any shift for that matter, can always order food from a large variety of restaurants and have it delivered in a half hour or so. No need for them to leave and sometimes risk getting fired for abandoning their post! Happy dashing!
As a 3rd shift (graveyard) security officer, doordash has been an absolute blessing! Did I forget to bring food? Doordash! Don't have time to prepare food? Doordash!
ReplyDeleteMain two issues with it are the lack of drivers out and restaurants open during these times. And the all too frequently crappy delivery, time, orders, etc. I try to rate every order I get and be as fair as possible, but too often I've had drivers completely ignore my instructions (my building is locked and they usually won't call or won't deliver to the right entrance, despite all that information being listed). Usually it's just an annoyance, but if this is combined with another issue, I won't be shy to leave a negative review. I've also had my deliveries left out in the rain and snow when I asked to be HANDED the order.
The lack of open restaurants and drivers out that late isn't on the drivers, but it can be pretty frustrating to have to wait for a 15 -20 minute order and it's delivered almost an hour after the initial order, or the dasher gets to the restaurant late and they've already closed for the night. If I don't order before I get to work or RIGHT as I get to work, I often don't have any options.
But my fiance (who also works graveyard security) and I are very dependent on and appreciative of doordash and the dashers who make late night deliveries. If an order goes well on the dashers side (only blaming them if they forget the drink or take WAY too long to get here) then I will ALWAYS leave a 5-star review on them. They deserve it.
Hello Katie. Thanks for sharing your experiences with Doordash. I am personally always glad to make a delivery to security officers. Why? Well, I used to work as a guard back in the 1990s and remember some shifts when I starved my you know what off. You know, the one man post where you cannot leave. Of course, back in the 1990s there was no Doordash or any other food delivery apps so you would just have to suffer until it was time to go home. As for the crappy dashers, yes they are out there. The crap seems to find its way into every line of work :)
