Doordash giving higher paying priority orders based on a Dasher's acceptance rate

Small orders and no tip orders have always been a problem for Dashers. Doordash has always tried to figure out ways to entice their Dashers to pick up and deliver these orders, but they haven't had much success. Sure, with most of these orders a Dasher will eventually pick up and deliver. But, many times that order will sit for a very long time as most Dashers don't want any part of it.

How is Doordash trying to inspire Dashers to take cheap orders?

Doordash came out with a strategy. They reward Dashers that have higher acceptance rates. What? We have all heard that acceptance rate didn't matter! Well, now it does - sort of. Don't worry, Doordash is not forcing anyone to take all their orders. You can still have a lousy acceptance rate. If you are a cherry-picker, you can continue on with your cherry picking, but this new system by Doordash will certainly impact things.

Dashers with a high acceptance rate get priority access to high paying orders

This priority access will give dashers with a higher acceptance rate access to orders before others. Those with a 50 percent acceptance rate will receive higher paying orders over others. To make things even better, a dasher can up their acceptance rate to 70 percent or more to receive even more priority. To receive this benefit, a dasher must also have a 4.50 customer rating.

I thought my acceptance rate on Doordash didn't matter

It doesn't, unless you want to unlock this benefit. You can still decline as many orders as you want. There will be punishment though. You will lose access to many others that you otherwise would have received.

Will this new priority order thing impact cherry pickers?

Cherry pickers will find that this new system will indeed impact the way they do things. Cherry pickers usually wait around for the high paying orders and will decline all of the cheap paying orders. They usually have a low acceptance rate.

They will find it very difficult to cherry pick now as they will most likely not receive the best paying orders. These high paying orders will go to those with priority access.

My thoughts on the Doordash priority access program

Personally, I don't like it. I see it as another manipulative way for Doordash to take advantage of their delivery drivers. As independent contractors, dashers should be able to choose any job they want without punishment. It is just another way for Doordash to try and control their drivers.

Doordash likes to preach how dashers are independent of Doordash. They constantly note how dashers are not employed by Doordash and work for themselves. This is great! It really is. The problem is that Doordash wants to control their dashers, which they have no business doing. They like to call dashers independent contractors, but they try as much as they can to enforce what an employer can do.

Doordash really never learns. It is just another thing that they can possibly be sued for. It kind of makes you wonder if this company cares about lawsuits anymore. If you keep up with things, then you know how many lawsuits Doordash has had against them for various things. It is really unbelievable. Well, until someone twists their arm again, it is just something that dashers will have to deal with.
