Is it worth driving for Doordash?

Doordash, as well as all of the other gig economy jobs out there offer terrific opportunities for those looking to supplement their income. Sounds great doesn't it? But, how much money do Dashers earn for their time? Is it worth your time and all of the miles you will put on your car? Let's find out if it is really worth it driving for Doordash.

Explaining Dasher pay

Anyone that is interested in dashing is surely doing it because they need money. We'll start this with the age old question of how much do Doordashers earn. We'll also give the age old answer and tell you that it varies. It will depend on your region and the strategies you use while dashing.

After expenses, such as gasoline and the wear and tear on your car, most Dashers will average $20 to $25 per hour. Some will earn less than that while others earn more, but that is usually the average earnings for a Dasher. Those is large metropolitan areas will usually earn more than others. Region does matter.

Is it worth putting miles on my car to Doordash?

The miles that a Dasher puts on their vehicle is all part of business expenses. The gas used to make deliveries, the wear-and-tear on the car and sometimes even part of the car payment; if there is one. Now, is it worth using your car to make Doordash deliveries? Well, that all depends. Let's look a bit more in to this.

If a Dasher goes out and makes $150 for the day while spending $15 on gas, they will have made $135 for the day. Let's take out the wear-and-tear for the day and put actual earnings at $130. To me, and most others I'm sure, it certainly is worth it.

The argument to this is that the expenses of dashing outweigh the earnings. If someone can sincerely say this, I can guarantee you that the dasher is doing something wrong. They are most likely taking non-profitable calls.

To make $150 on Doordash, an individual should not be driving more than 100 miles. In actuality, around 75 miles would be preferred. Of course, the type of car that an individual drives is important. A compact car is the way to go when dashing. If someone is using a S.U.V. or other large vehicle that eats up gas, it probably is not worth dashing.

I've also heard the argument that putting on all those miles on the car will make the car lose value in the long run. Well, sorry to say but even a car just sitting in the driveway is losing value. I know, the more miles a car has on it will lessen the value, but that doesn't stop people from using their car to drive to their regular 9 to 5 job five days a week. They do this even though they don't get the luxury of writing off any business expenses.

So is it worth it driving for Doordash?

The plain and simple answer is that if you need the extra money it certainly is worth driving for Doordash. It is a  profitable side hustle that can help you financially. As many of you know it can also be a full-time gig that can be very lucrative. I would never advise anybody to depend on Doordash as full-time work on a long term basis, but there is no problem with using Doordash for temporary full-time work. It pays just as well, and even better than many regular 9 to 5 jobs out there.
