Why did my Doordash driver change?

When placing an order through Doordash, a customer will see the name of the driver that has accepted their order. They can communicate with the driver if they want and can track the driver's location through GPS once the order is picked up. There are times though when the Doordash customer sees the name of their delivery driver change. This can be confusing to the customer.

Why did the Doordash driver change?

Doordash customers will have no idea why this has happened, and it can surely be quite annoying to them; especially if the original driver has held on to their order for quite a while. But, this does happen a lot.

When a Doordash driver accepts an order, they always have the option of dropping the order. The reason for them getting rid of the order varies, but with that said, Doordash does not have a problem with them doing this to a certain point. It will hurt the dashers metrics, but if they have a good metrics, it will not impact them much.

The delivery driver may have had an emergency and decided they could not complete the order. They may have to take a long restroom break. They might be multi-apping and have too many orders and decided that they have to drop one. They may be having car problems. The reasons are endless. Nevertheless, no matter what their reason is, they can drop the order.

When this happens, the Doordash customer's order will recirculate to other drivers, and another driver will accept the order. When this happens, the Doordash customer will now see a different name as their delivery driver.

How does a dasher cancelling an order impact the Doordash customer?

The Doordash customer will have to wait longer for their order. How long will depend on how long the initial Doordash driver held on to the order. If a dasher only holds on to the order for a few minutes before getting rid of it, it will have minimal impact on delivery time. But, if they hold on to the order for say 20 minutes, the customer will receive their order much later than what they expected.

How does a dasher canceling an order impact the next Doordash driver?

When a dasher accepts an order that was dropped by another dasher, they will have no idea that it was a dropped order. It will look just like any other order. A customer that is paying attention to their app will know that a new driver has taken on their order, but if a customer does not pay attention, they will never know that a new driver took on their order.

This is not good for the driver because the customer will think that their dasher (the second driver) has taken too long with their order which could lead to a bad customer rating. So, even though dropping an order is not good for anybody, it is something that happens.

What should a Doordash customer do when their driver changes?

There is absolutely nothing that a Doordash customer can do. Being angry about it with the driver will not help you. It is just best to be polite with the driver. Again, being rude to the driver will not help you.

I once received an order that was just like any order that I normally receive. I had the order for about three minutes when I received a phone call. I answered, and it was the Doordash customer. They had an angry sarcastic voice telling me how they have been waiting an hour for their order. They were really nasty about it. What did I do? I got rid of the order of course. I had no time to deal with somebody like that.

This Doordash customer surely had a driver that held on to their order for a long time before cancelling it. Again, being rude will never help you as a customer. If anything, it will just prolong your order.
