A couple of days ago while out dashing I received a couple of calls from a few knucklehead Doordash customers. Why do I call them knuckleheads? Because these individuals had absolutely no respect for their Doordash driver (Which was me.) They did not want to abide by the rules that most of us are following these days. Seems like they wanted a hug and a pat on the back as I delivered their food.
What I always do after accepting a Doordash call
Ever since Covid 19 became part of out lives, I always send the Doordash customer a text after accepting their order. I have this text saved where as I can just copy and paste it every time. The text basically tells the customers that I will be delivering their food very soon and that I only do no-contact deliveries. I also tell them that I will leave their food at their door and knock on their door when the delivery is complete. Lastly, I tell them to please not to come out until I walk away.
Most people will reply and send a thumbs up, say thanks or something of that nature. Most of these people don't want any contact with me either. Once in a while, you'll get somebody that don't like the no-contact thing, but it is very few. When I say very few, I would estimate 1 out of 250. Just a guess there, but I have not had too many until a couple of nights ago.
Some Doordash customers have no respect for no contact deliveries
The other night I did nine Doordash deliveries. I unassigned two other deliveries though because I did not want to have to deal with a couple of Doordash customers. Both of these idiots didn't like the idea of having no-contact deliveries. For some reason they seemed to like the idea of getting up, close and personal.
I have no idea why some Doordash customers have to make a case of seeing the driver and having the driver hand them the food. Don't they understand what is going on in the world? Are they living under a rock? Do they just no care? Are they the type of people lost in their way of thinking that they can't catch the Corona Virus? I don't know, but no matter what their thinking is, they need to respect their Doordash driver if they want their food.
The first disrespectful knucklehead Doordash customer
This was a call from a fast food restaurant. I went through the drive-thru and picked up the food like I normally would. When I started driving on the street to make the delivery I realized that I had forgotten to text the customer. That happens every once in a while, but usually they'll still just give me the thumbs up. I received a different reply form this customer though. Here is a run down of our texting conversation after I sent him the initial text that I always send:
Customer: I have never had a dasher not hand me my food
Dasher: Sorry, but I only do no-contact deliveries
Customer: You are gonna have to call me to find my apartment
Customer: And I wont be able to hand you the cash tip
Dasher: I'll have no problem finding your apartment, and don't worry about the cash tip.
Customer: It's easier for me to just go to the front of my apartments and meet you. I always do this with dashers.
Customer: Are you seriously that uncomfortable
Dasher: It's not about being uncomfortable. There's this little thing called Covid 19 going on
That was the end of the texting and the end of this delivery. I said to myself the hell with this order. I don't have to waste my time dealing with this stupidity. I went back to the fast food restaurant, returned the food and unassigned the order. I wasn't going to waste my time with an idiot like this.
I loved how this Doordash customer tried to entice me with the "I wont be able to hand you the cash tip" comment. Did he think I was going to go "Okay, since you are giving me a cash tip I'll be there in a jiffy!" Idiot. Then he asks "Are you seriously that uncomfortable?" What the hell! Is this moron seriously asking a dumb question like that?
The second disrespectful knucklehead Doordash customer
This call was for a hamburger joint. Again, I forget to text the customer right away after accepting the call. I ended up remembering when I was half way in the drive-thru. I texted this customer, and he answered right away. Here's how that conversation went:
Customer: Interesting, I met a dasher earlier today and yesterday at my fence.
Dasher: Okay. I'm going to cancel and let another driver deliver your food for you as I only do no-contact deliveries
Customer: Good! To bad they force the tip
Whatever his forced tip comment was I have no idea, but once again I unassigned an order as this was another idiot I didn't want to deal with. This guy actually texted me back and tried to make me feel like I was abnormal for only doing no-contact deliveries. He tried to make it sound like all the dashers out there just meet up with him with no problem at his fence and hand him his food. I'm sure that there are some dashers out there that don't give a damn themselves, but they are in the minority as most of us dashers do care about safety.
Almost had a third knucklehead Doordash customer
This customer did not reply to my text. I don't like when a customer does not acknowledge my next because I don't know what to expect. I'll usually go on and do the order though. With this one, after arriving at the house, this guy is hanging out in his front yard with his friends.
I got out my car, told him "How you doing?" and told him "I'm going to put your food right here, and you can get it from here okay." What I did was put his food on the hood of my car. He seemed to be pretty cool with it, but even if he wasn't what was he going to do or say anyways? he really had no choice in the matter.
Most Doordash customers want no-contact deliveries themselves
It's no secret that most Doordash customers themselves don't want any contact with their dashers. They want the driver to leave the food at their door and be gone. They don't want to take a risk of catching Covid 19 by having small talk with their dasher.
Sure, chances are that they will not get it, but why would anybody take a chance? Is it really that important for a driver to hand the food directly to your hand? It's not! It's always best for the dasher to leave the food at a customer's door.
We have to admit that his will never be over. We will always have these knucklehead customers that just wont listen. They don't care about anyone's safety. They just want their damn food and that's all. Sad, but that's just the way it is. Unfortunately for them, they may have to wait a bit longer for their food when they get a driver like me!
