Doordash driver, better known as dashers, are individuals that pick up and deliver orders that are placed by customers that use the Doordash app. What makes working for Doordash unique from a regular 9 to 5 job is that you can set your own schedule and work whenever you want. Dashers also have the privilege of calling themselves their own boss as there is no supervisor looking over their shoulder telling them what needs to be done.
Can I drive for Doordash part time?
Yes. The vast majority of Doordash fleet across the United States is made up of part time Doordash drivers. In fact, the number of part time Doordash drivers easily outnumbers the amount of full time drivers.
When we think of part time work, most of us think about 4 hours per day or 20 hours per week. Once accepted as a Doordash driver, an individual can easily choose to work this amount of hours, and the best part is that they are able to choose the hours they want. They can work early mornings, afternoons, evenings and even nights.
Those choosing to work even less than 20 hours per week can easily do so. As a Doordash driver, you can work 2 hours per week, 4 hours per week, 10 hours per week or any other amount of hours you want. You can even work 10 hours on Sundays and not work the rest of the week. Basically, you get to enjoy the freedom of making your own schedule any which way you want.
Doordash was created for part time work
When Doordash was first introduced, the visioned candidate for these delivery driver positions were those that were looking to supplement their income. Basically, people that were looking to make extra money. It was a major success as dashers were able to add a couple of hundred dollars per week to their overall income.
Eventually people started dashing full time
As mentioned earlier, most Doordash drivers work part time, but there are many people that do Doordash on a full time basis. These people may be out of work and are using Doordash as a fill in job, or they might be individuals that choose to do Doordash on a full time basis.
Why would they choose to do Doordash full time? It all comes down to the money. If an individual is good at dashing, they can consistently earn $1000 or more per week. Let's look at the reality of things here. This is more than what many other full time jobs would pay.
In my personal opinion, dashing on a full time basis for the long haul is not to wise. Why? Because there are just too many dashers that get unfairly deactivated. When that happens, it can negatively impact a dasher's life as their world comes crumbling down.
If someone chooses to work for Doordash on a full time basis, they will need to register with other delivery driver platforms such as Uber Eats, GrubHub, Instacart, etc. This will insure that if Doordash does do them wrong, they will have back up apps so they can continue making money. A Doordash deactivation will not impact their life at all.
