What is a good Doordash tip?

The final amount of money that a Doordash driver gets paid when completing a delivery is based on a few things. They are paid a base pay which comes from Doordash directly, and they are paid the customer tip. Both of these are tallied up and is the amount that a dasher is offered when they receive a delivery opportunity. There are a couple of other things that can play in to the final pay which are promotions or challenges, but most of the time it is just the base pay and customer tip.

How much should a Doordash customer tip?

We all know that a customer has the right to tip anything that they want, and this includes not tipping anything at all. With that said, the normal courtesy tip that a customer should tip is 15% of their order. This has been accepted as the standard tip for as long as anyone can remember. That means if you order $20 of food the tip should be at least $3. If you order $30 of food your tip should be at least $4.50. If it is $100 of food, the tip should be at least $15.

What is a good Doordash customer tip?

When dashing, you will find that there are many regular customers that order food from Doordash on a regular basis. After delivering to a particular customer on a regular basis, dashers will figure out which customers tip good and which ones don't.

There are many customers that I know of that always tip more than 15%. No matter what they order, they will always tip $5. It doesn't matter how small their order is. Even if they only order $10 of food, they will tip $5. Then there are the other customers that never tip anything.

Most dashers would be happy with a $5 tip. When a Doordash customer adds a $5 tip, the total payout that a dasher will receive is usually a decent amount. Even if Doordash only offers $2 of base pay for the order, the dasher will at least receive a decent amount for the delivery; $7.

If Doordash offers good base pay for the order, say $6, it will boost the total payout to $11 for the dasher. An order like this will get picked up and delivered quickly. A $5 tip on a Doordash order is a good tip amount. The only time this is not good is when it's a very large order, such as a $100 order or something similar. That would account for a 5% tip which is not good at all.

Dashers are not happy with your $1 tip

Doordash has a lot of customers that like to tip $1 or $2 and dashers are not generally happy with these cheap tips. Granted, these customers are better than those that do not tip anything, but it is still not enough to satisfy a dasher.

Think about it, the dasher is using their car and their gas to pick up food and deliver it. When a customer tips $1 for this, it is really a slap in the face. To make matters worse, occasionally you will get that $0.10 or $0.50 tip. Are you serious? In a way, these people are worse than the no tippers.

Doordash customer should tip at least $5

To summarize all of this, anybody ordering food to be delivered should always tip at least $5. Sure, a tip is not legally necessary, but if an individual wants superior service and their order delivered promptly they have to understand that they need to tip. Everyone will be happier. The customer will receive their food very fast, and the dasher will be happy with their pay.

What dashers would deliver these cheap orders anyways

If a customer is getting away with low or no tips, they are most likely having newbie dashers delivering their orders. Doordash really likes these new dashers because they are prone to accept anything.

As many Doordash drivers know, this is why it seems like Doordash likes to deactivate veteran drivers. Room needs to be made for the newbies to accept and deliver these orders. Those that have been dashing for a while know that these are trash orders and will never accept them.

So, if you are a Doordash customer that doesn't decently tip, you may want to reconsider your habits. Either that or continue to receive the worst service possible. There is never a reason for this type of customer to complaint that their order took long or that their food is cold.
